FACILITATION AND CONDUCT OF CLINCAL TRIALS

Where appropriate, the Center will facilitate and/or conduct clinical trials that employ biomarkers in imaging.

Effective use of biomarkers in imaging requires considerably more than validation. Poor trial design, non-standard data collection, and questions concerning the reliability of results often occur when imaging biomarkers are utilized by anything less than experienced researchers.

The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Biomarkers in Imaging draws on the proven expertise of the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Radiology and beyond to design effective, efficient trials using imaging biomarkers. To date, the radiologists, researchers, and technologists at MGH Radiology have worked with over 35 companies and better than 30 discrete biomarkers, providing clinical trial experience spanning a wide range of diseases.

The MGH Center for Biomarkers in Imaging works with trial sponsors in government, industry, and beyond to identify experienced radiologist and researchers to design clinical trials that meet the sponsor’s needs, as well as provide administrative oversight for conducting those trials at MGH and beyond. This inclusive approach ensures that appropriate, validated imaging biomarkers realize their potential in the trial setting at issue and provide sponsors with data in a timely, effective fashion.
