The Center for Biomarkers in Imaging Welcomes The Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology - November 2003

The Center for Biomarkers in Imaging (CBI) is pleased to announce the establishment of a collaborative partnership with the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), creating the Center for Biomarkers in Imaging at MGH & HST.

"Our new relationship with HST is designed to make a strong organization that much stronger," notes CBI Director A. Gregory Sorensen, M.D. HST has a strong record in educating thought leaders in the health policy community, with distinguished alumni that include FDA Commissioner Mark McClellan, M.D. Ph.D. Beyond education, HST also brings leading-edge economic analysis to CBI through its Biomedical Enterprise Program.

CBI’s partnership with HST is already producing results. On November 18, 2003, Dr. Sorensen presented the CBI concept to HST’s Advisory Council, which is considering HST’s formal response to FDA Commissioner McClellan’s request for proposals to increase collaboration between academia and the agency. Following the positive reception at that meeting, there is every reason to believe that imaging biomarkers and the MGH/HST Center for Biomarkers in Imaging will play a key role in this current FDA initiative and beyond.
